Britta Böhler

Dr. Britta Böhler (1960) studied law in
Freiburg (Germany) and went on to obtain a doctorate
with distinction. She was sworn in as an attorney in
Munich in 1985 and admitted to the Frankfurt Bar in
1989. In 1991 she moved to the Netherlands, and was
sworn in as attorney in Amsterdam in 1994. One year
later she became a partner at Böhler Franken Koppe
Wijngaarden. Dr Böhler is a member of the criminal
law department. In 2000 she wrote a book on the
Öcalan case, entitled ‘De zwerftocht van een leider
– Achter de schermen van de zaak Öcalan’
(The Flight of a Leader - behind the scenes of the Öcalan
case) and another book in 2004 entitled ‘Crisis
in de rechtsstaat’ (Rule of Law in Crisis).
Both were published by Arbeiderspers. In 2003 she won
the Bar Association President's prize for best Amsterdam
attorney. In 2005 she received the Clara Meijer-Wichmann
penning. This honour is awarded yearly to a person that
deserves special recognition for her work in defending
human rights, particularly in the Netherlands. Commencing
June 12th 2007 she is a member of the Senate
of Dutch Parliament for the GroenLinks party.
