war & peace
The wars and civil wars in the former Yugoslavia, Turkey,
Iraq, and Sierra Leone confront us with the human suffering,
death and devastation that war causes. International humanitarian
law, or the law of war, aims to mitigate the suffering
that wars cause.
Liesbeth Zegveld has specialist knowledge of this area
and has written various books on the subject.
In various national and international procedures BFKW represents
the interests of war victims.
The prosecution of (alleged) war criminals throughout the
world has led to the establishment of a number of international
criminal tribunals. Various countries, including the Netherlands,
have also recently amended their laws, making it possible
to prosecute war criminals in the national courts. Attorneys
from the international law & human rights department represent
the interests of war crimes suspects at national and international
level.
