International law & human rights
BFKW's international
law & human rights department works on human rights issues
in the Netherlands, in other countries and on an international
level.
Various international
organizations are based in the Netherlands, such as the International
Court of Justice, the International Criminal Tribunal for
the former Yugoslavia, and now the International Criminal
Court. These organizations are bringing international law
into this country.
BFKW's international law and human rights section deals with three
branches of international law: the fundamental freedoms of
individuals, international criminal law and international
humanitarian law (the laws of war). The attorneys from the
international law & human rights department act in numerous national
and international cases, including to dateproceedings before the
Dutch civil and criminal courts, the European Court for Human
Rights, the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights and the
Special Court for Sierra Leone.
